What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the words "electric vehicles"?

Tesla has dominated the EV space in recent years, selling the most EVs in North America. Automakers like Hyundai have made significant strides in the space, producing competitive nameplates such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Rivian completely changed the game with the R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup truck nameplates. The R1 Quad Launch Edition challenges everything drivers thought they knew about electric vehicles.

The R1 Quad Launch Edition: Ushering in a new era for EVs

Although electric vehicles have become increasingly ubiquitous over the last half-decade, millions of American drivers remain unconvinced that they're practical or engaging enough to meet their standards.

Rivian's R1 models completely obliterate misconceptions about the quickness, power and capability of EVs due to their performance specs.

Rivian R1 Quad Launch Edition specs

  • 0-60 MPH in 2.6 seconds (2.5 for R1T electric truck)
  • 1,025 horsepower; 1,198 pound-feet of torque
  • 400 miles of driving range (in Conserve Mode)

The "Quad" uses four electric motors, a powertrain setup reserved for the most powerful electric vehicles in the industry. Its quad-motor setup allows it to accomplish several impressive feats and break down barriers for all EVs.

Rivian's EV: One of the quickest EVs on the market

One of the main appeals of the Rivian R1 Quad Launch Edition is its quick acceleration. It's one of the quickest production vehicles ever made, not just one of the quickest EVs. Paste BN tested the R1T Quad Launch Edition and can confirm that the EV is mind-blowingly quick.

Prior to the invention of performance EV models, many mass-produced electric vehicles were seen as dull with mundane driving dynamics. The acceleration of the Rivian R1 Quad Launch Edition makes it enjoyable to drive. Its regenerative braking keeps drivers safe by instantly decreasing speed after easing up on the gas pedal.

The R1 Quad Launch Edition offers greater driving range

Driving range has improved for the EV space as automakers perfect battery-electric vehicle tech, but few EVs can pass the 300-mile mark. The Quad Launch Edition pushes driving range about as far as the industry's best goes, with 400 miles of range in Conserve Mode.

Furthermore, R1 Quad Launch Edition models are capable of fast-charging and compatible with Tesla's Supercharger network. Rivian's infotainment software also makes finding nearby chargers easy, going as far as displaying a rating system for nearby chargers and showing how many stalls are available at charging stations.

Rivian's R1 takes on off-roading

When it comes to off-roading, one of the most important vehicle specs is ground clearance. Proper ground clearance allows vehicles to overcome obstacles without damage. A lack of ground clearance is a mechanical disaster for those who dare to take the road less traveled in the wrong vehicle.

Rivian vehicles utilize an independent air suspension to provide drivers with an adjustable ride height for different driving modes and conditions. R1 models have a maximum of 14.9 inches of ground clearance, according to Rivian. It has more ground clearance than the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Range Rover, according to U.S. News & World Report.

How much does the Rivian R1 Quad Launch Edition cost?

The R1S Quad Launch Edition starts at $125,990. You can lease it for $1,949 a month ($9,844 due at signing). The R1T Quad Launch Edition starts at $119,990. Drivers can lease the electric truck for $1,899 a month ($9,794 due at signing).

Rivian's Quad models are the best the company has to offer in terms of power and tech. While they seem expensive compared to the average new gas or electric vehicle, vehicles with similar performance specs like the Lamborghini Urus can cost twice as much.
