'Cake Boss' to have second bakery at sea

Master baker Buddy Valastro, star of the popular TLC television series Cake Boss and Next Great Baker, will soon open his second Carlo's Bake Shop at sea.

Norwegian Cruise Line said the celebrity baker would have a shop onboard the new 4,000-passenger Norwegian Getaway, currently under construction in Germany and set to debut from Miami in February.

Valastro opened his first floating outlet earlier this year onboard New York-based sister ship Norwegian Breakaway.

Carlo's Bake Shop is on Deck 8, off the waterfront promenade, and features some of the same Italian treats as at Valastro's family bakery in Hoboken, N.J. – the bakery featured on the TV show Cake Boss.

Cruise passengers can purchase vanilla and chocolate cannolis, cream-filled lobster tails, cookies, Purple Groovy fondant cakes and individual tiramisu. Special fondant cakes can also be pre-ordered for birthdays and other celebrations.

The shop on Breakaway was such an immediate hit some of the sweets were quickly added to the menu in the atrium coffee café.

During the naming ceremony for Norwegian Breakaway, Valastro himself played a major role as master of ceremonies.

Passengers on Breakaway and Getaway can also pick up secrets of the trade in Cake Boss cupcake-decorating classes.
