Repairs to continue on Holland America ship
The Holland America ship that developed a propeller problem over the weekend will remain out of service through at least Oct. 11.
Holland America today announced it had canceled the Oct. 4 sailing of the 1,350-passenger Veendam to give workers more time to make repairs. The Boston-to-Quebec City voyage was scheduled to last seven nights.
The Veendam is experiencing what Holland America is calling a "technical issue" with one of its propellers that already had forced the cancellation of this week's seven-night sailing from Quebec City to Boston. The ship has been docked in Quebec City since the problem arose over the weekend, and repairs have been ongoing.
"As work has progressed on the propeller of ms Veendam, it has been identified that more time will be needed to make the necessary repairs," the line says in a statement sent to Paste BN.
Holland America says passengers on the newly canceled cruise will receive a full refund of the fare for the voyage plus a future cruise credit of 100% of the fare paid. In addition, the line will reimburse any non-refundable expenses such as missed tours and excursions that were purchased through the company. Passengers on this week's cruise already have been promised similar compensation.
"We are extremely sorry that our guests' cruise vacations have been affected in this way and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience," the line's statement says.
