Carnival pumps up teen program with DJ classes
Would your teen find it fun to learn how to spin records like a DJ? Maybe it's time to take them on a Carnival cruise.
The 24-ship line is partnering with Miami's DJ Irie to launch a new shipboard DJ academy called Spin U.
Open to teens ages 15 to 17, the new offering will be part of the Club O2 teen program that is on all Carnival vessels.
Carnival says participants will learn how to operate the latest mixing and sound equipment as well as how to read a crowd and tailor song selections from multiple musical genres. They'll also get instruction on creating a memorable DJ persona.
A 30-minute introductory session will be available at no extra charge, with a follow-up, 45-minute class costing $20. A more advanced program of three one-hour classes will cost $99.
Personalized, one-on-one sessions with Carnival's shipboard DJs also will be available.
Carnival says it already is testing Spin U on the Carnival Freedom, which sails six- and eight-day cruises out of Fort Lauderdale. The line says the program will roll out fleetwide by the end of 2015.
