Broadway musical 'Priscilla' heading to cruise ship

Another Broadway musical is heading to a cruise ship.

Norwegian Cruise Line on Monday announced that Priscilla, Queen of the Desert -- The Musical will open on the Norwegian Epic in October 2015 after the vessel begins year-round sailings out of Barcelona.

The pop song-infused story of two drag queens and a transgender woman traveling across Australia played on Broadway in 2011 and 2012 after a 2 1/2-year run on London's West End.

Adapted from Stephan Elliott's 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the jukebox musical strings together late '70s and early '80s pop and dance hits such as It's Raining Men, I Will Survive, and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Norwegian on Monday also announced plans to add the ballroom dancing show Burn the Floor to the Norwegian Epic in April 2015. The show already is aboard the line's Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway. In addition, the line is partnering with the famed Cavern Club in Liverpool to add a branch of the music venue to the Norwegian Epic. It'll open in October 2015.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert -- The Musical will take the place of the Blue Man Group show that has played on the Norwegian Epic since it's debut in 2010. Norwegian Epic's March 29 departure will be its last to feature the Blue Man Group. The Cavern Club is going into a space that until now has been a jazz club called Fat Cats.

At 155,873 tons, the Norwegian Epic is the world's fourth largest cruise ship, behind three Royal Caribbean vessels. It can carry more than 5,000 passengers at maximum capacity.
