'Frozen' characters to headline Disney cruises

Call it the ultimate Frozen experience.

Disney today announced that the characters Anna, Elsa and Kristoff from the company's hit animated movie Frozen will join passengers this summer on Disney cruises in Norway.

Making their first appearance in the land that inspired their story, the characters will headline a Norwegian summer celebration at the Sunnmøre Open Air Museum in Alesund, Norway that will be available exclusively to Disney passengers as a shore excursion.

In addition to character appearances, the celebration will include dancing to the tunes of local musicians and a sampling of Norwegian cuisine, including svele, a traditional sweet pancake from the region.

The excursion is just one of several Disney unveiled today for its first Norway cruises, which kick off on June 6 with a seven-night voyage departing from Copenhagen. The seven-night sailings will take place on the 1,754-passenger Disney Magic and feature stops in Stavanger, Alesund, Geiranger and Bergen, Norway. Also planned is a nine-night Norway sailing out of Copenhagen on June 20, 2015 that adds calls at Molde and Olden, Norway.

Other Disney cruise excursions in Norway announced today include a visit to a Viking village on the island of Giske, where passengers will experience the ancient Viking world with authentic food and games, and a visit to a Norwegian Fjord horse center to experience one of Norway's national symbols. A Norwegian cooking experience in Norway's centuries-old Kristiansand also is in the works as is a visit to a mountain farm near Geiranger. Kayaking in Geirangerfjord also will be an option.

Christened in 1998, the Disney Magic emerged from a massive, six-week makeover in 2013 that included the addition of new deck-top fun zones, children's areas, eateries and more. Click through the carousel below to see what's new.
