In its day, nothing matched this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette when it showed up at the 24 hours of Le Mans.
It was the first year that Corvettes had entered the endurance competition, says the car's proud owner, collector Bruce Meyer. One of the cars won its class and placed eighth overall.
"It was a big day for America and Corvette," he says.
The appeal was the car's big V-8, which created a thundering roar at LeMans. There was no power steering or air conditioning, so the car wasn't the most comfortable to drive. But, as Meyer puts it, it's "just a good looking thing."
