"American Idol" is swiftly whittling down the competition.

In two consecutive episodes, the ABC competition show shed 10 contestants. After viewers picked their 20 favorite singers from the Top 24 in the April 20 episode, the contestants learned who made it into the Top 14 – including who would need a lifeline from the judges – on April 21.

Kyana Fanene, Grayson Torrence, MKY and Penny Samar were shown the door on April 20, during the "songs of faith" episode. Based on these Easter Sunday performances, "Idol" viewers cast their votes for the Top 14, and judges Luke BryanLionel Richie and Carrie Underwood had the opportunity to save four singers who'd found themselves in the "danger zone."

The performance that landed the 23-year-old Egyptian musician on the exclusive platinum list, which fast tracks a few contestants through the first week in Hollywood, was a rendition of Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness." The judges were unanimously won over.
