Whoopi Goldberg has been open about a nasty battle with pneumonia earlier this year, and though the "View" co-host is back at work, she's still on the road to recovery.

“It’s going to be a while before I’m back to 100 percent,” she recently told People. “It really took me down, but I’m getting there.”

After being absent from "The View" for several weeks, Goldberg revealed in March that she had been fighting pneumonia, with fluid in both lungs. She said she is feeling better now but limiting her workload.

"I’ve cut down a lot of the stuff that I would normally be doing and I have to rest," she said. "There’s no getting around it. In the morning I go and do the show, then afterward I have my other work, and by 3 o’clock, I have to sit down. I have to stop. It’s taking a little while, but I’m getting there."

Back in March, Goldberg shared a video update with fans, letting them know she was OK and moving around again, but that her illness had been severe and dangerous: "I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news: I didn't."

Four months later, the comedian and actress wants others to learn from her experience.

“I never thought of pneumonia as something that serious. In my mind I wasn’t that sick,” she added to People. “I hope that this is a cautionary tale for people. You have to take the time to take care of yourself.”

Goldberg told Paste BN that prayers and well wishes from fans helped her in the healing process.

"It got me back up on my feet. I'm so grateful for all the attention," she said. "With pneumonia, you're supposed to cut out as much stuff as you can. … I'm trying not to overdo everything, but of course that's hard not to because I like working. It's been interesting (with) making sure that I go to the doctor when I know I don't feel good, which is something I didn't do."
