Up-and-coming rapper Nick Blixky shot dead at 21 in Brooklyn, police say
Up-and-coming rapper Nick Blixky was shot and killed late Sunday in New York City, police say. He was 21.
New York Police Department officers responded to a call just before 9:30 p.m. that Blixky, whose real name is Nickalus Thompson, had been shot in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens area of Brooklyn. He was found unconscious with gunshot wounds and transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead, Lt. Thomas Antonetti told Paste BN.
No arrests have been made but an investigation is ongoing, Antonetti added.
Paste BN has reached out to Blixky's representative for more information.
The drill rapper was planning to release his first mixtape, titled "Different Timin," in June. He announced to his followers earlier this month that he had been "working during quarantine."
His most notable song, "Drive the Boat," had racked up more than 2.3 million YouTube views and over 1.5 million Spotify streams. Most recently, he released "What I Do" over the weekend.
Blixky’s Spotify profile says he started rapping for fun with his crew, Blixky Crew, but decided to take it more seriously and pursue a career in hip-hop when fans responded positively to his YouTube videos.
"Be patient, ya blessings is coming," he wrote on social media earlier this month.
Fellow rapper Lil Rekk commented on Blixky's most recent Instagram post after the news broke, writing it "can't be real" with broken heart and prayer emojis.
