Sarah Jessica Parker backs Harris in honor of 'childless cat lady' Carrie Bradshaw

Sarah Jessica Parker couldn't help but wonder whether she should endorse Vice President Kamala Harris — and now she has.
The Emmy-winning actress, 59, expressed support for Harris in an Instagram post on Wednesday that nodded to her character on "Sex and the City" and referenced Sen. JD Vance's controversial comments about "childless cat ladies."
Parker was seen in the photo holding a Harris campaign sign, with a cat on her windowsill. The actress provided a long list of reasons she is voting for Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, including "for the love of my country," "for our public schools," "for books, "for common sense gun laws," "for a living wage," "for opportunity," "for women," "for voting rights" and "for democracy."
"And for a certain childless cat lady I play on TV," she added, alluding to her "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw. "With an abundance of joy, optimism and pride I am voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz."

Parker's "cat lady" comment was a reference to a controversial remark Vance, former President Donald Trump's running mate, made on Fox News in 2021. The Ohio senator told Tucker Carlson that "the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children" and that "we are effectively run in this country … by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too."

The comment attracted significant criticism from numerous celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, who hit back against Vance on Instagram in July. "I truly can't believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States," she wrote at the time. "All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too."
While endorsing Harris, Taylor Swift made a reference to Vance's comment, too. The pop star signed off her post expressing support for the vice president by referring to herself as a "Childless Cat Lady."
Glenn Close also pushed back with an Instagram post showing herself with her cat. "Eve would have left a bleeding mouse head in the bed of anyone who criticized any kind of lady with a CAT," Close wrote. The actress starred in "Hillbilly Elegy," the 2020 movie based on Vance's memoir.
In an interview with Megyn Kelly in July, Vance defended his "childless cat lady" comment, saying it was "not about criticizing people who, for various reasons, didn't have kids" but about "criticizing the Democratic Party for becoming anti-family and anti-child."
