Country singer Jamey Johnson arrested, charged with drug possession
Country singer Jamey Johnson has been arrested in Tennessee.
Tennessee Highway Patrol officers pulled over the "In Color" singer, 49, on Sunday in Williamson County and charged him with speeding and possession of drugs "with intent to manufacture, deliver or sell the controlled substance," according to court records viewed by The Nashville Tennessean, part of the Paste BN Network.
He is facing a Class E felony and a fine of up to $5,000.
Paste BN has reached out to representatives for Johnson for comment.
Johnson has received 10 Grammy nominations throughout his career, and his discography includes the albums "The Guitar Song" and "The Dollar." The singer and songwriter has collaborated with artists like Willie Nelson and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Johnson's latest album, "Midnight Gasoline," debuted earlier this month. It includes the song "Sober," in which he sings about his sobriety journey. "It ain't easy on the wagon," the lyrics say, continuing, "All these drinking songs we're playing make it hard staying sober in this town."
"I am 13 years sober now," Johnson said in a September press release. "I haven't had a drop of alcohol since 2011, and I know that could end this afternoon."
"It is a day-to-day, hour-to-hour decision. Most of the places I play are bars, or I am still hanging out in bars. That's where most of my friends are. Now I can hang out in them and not be drinking like I used to. That is what 'Sober' is about."
Speaking recently to The Nashville Tennessean, the singer opened up further about his "continuing battle for sobriety."
"I haven't craved a drink for 13 years, but I'm always one sip away," he said. "Making the daily decision to remain sober is not easy, but it's possible."
