Katie Holmes slams report about daughter Suri: 'I don't want a target on my child's back'

Katie Holmes isn't taking "false" reporting about her daughter Suri Cruise lightly.
The "Dawson's Creek" star, 45, took to Instagram on Sunday to dispute a recent report from The Daily Mail that her 18-year-old daughter is a "millionaire" after a trust fund from her father Tom Cruise "kicked in." The article stated that Holmes also has a trust fund set up for her.
Holmes shared a screenshot of the article and decried it as "completely false," adding, "Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up." She captioned the photo, "Enough."
In the comments of her post, the actress explained why she spoke out against the reporting after one follower argued she should have more "perspective" because average people are dealing with bigger problems.
"I don't disagree," she replied. "But in the world today, I don't want a target on my child's back. It's dangerous."
Holmes previously shared a post on Saturday that jokingly attributed the quote "don't believe everything you read on the Internet" to William Shakespeare.
Paste BN has reached out to Tom Cruise for comment.
Holmes, who is starring in "Our Town" on Broadway, was married to the "Mission: Impossible" actor from 2006 to 2012. They share one child, Suri, who turned 18 in April.
The "Batman Begins" actress is typically quite private about her daughter, though she has occasionally talked about her in interviews and on social media.
In 2021, Holmes shared rare photos of Suri on Instagram to celebrate her birthday, writing that she "can't believe you are already 15!"
Holmes, who was 27 when Suri was born, said she was "happy to become a mum in my twenties," she told Elle UK in 2019.
"Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match," she said. "We kind of grew up together."
In an interview with Town & Country earlier this year, Holmes said she was proud of her daughter, who was heading off to college.
"Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy," she told the outlet. "I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that."
