Marlon Wayans exchanges barbs with Soulja Boy over 'transphobic slander' about Wayans' son

A brewing social media feud between Marlon Wayans and Soulja Boy is getting ugly.
For days, the two entertainers have exchanged barbs on X, formerly Twitter, with some posts containing various slurs. Things seemingly came to a head Wednesday, when Soulja Boy reportedly directed homophobic and transphobic comments at the comedian and his transgender son, Kai, according to Entertainment Weekly and Billboard. The X posts are no longer available on Soulja Boy's account.
"You know you can get cancelled for transphobic slander like this… Fortunately for you that you don't have a career. Apparently, You BEEN cancelled for the last 17 years. Crank that was 2007. We waiting," Wayans wrote alongside a screenshot of one of the "Kiss Me Thru the Phone” rapper's posts.
He also tagged Soulja Boy in a similar post several minutes later and followed with a few other derogatory posts about Soulja Boy's appearance.
Paste BN has reached out to representatives for Wayans and Soulja Boy for comment.
In a TMZ video published Wednesday morning, Wayans told paparazzi, "I'm good; me and Soulja Boy are cool." Immediately after, the "Scary Movie 6" co-writer mocked Soulja Boy's career and appearance and joked: "I'll put you in one of my movies."
In 2023, Wayans revealed on "The Breakfast Club" radio show that he was on a new journey as a parent to a transgender child. In the interview, he opened up about having a "transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance."
Soulja Boy, who had a No. 1 hit in his 2007 debut single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," has not returned to the Billboard charts since 2010. On Feb. 7, he released his latest album, "The Influence."
Marlon Wayans on Trump inauguration performance: 'Nobody cares who Soulja Boy is'
Billboard pointed out that the social media feud might date back to Wayans dissing the rapper in a radio interview on Jan. 2.
During an appearance on Cincinatti's 101.1 The Wiz, Wayans was asked for his thoughts about Snoop Dogg and Nelly being among the rappers who performed at the inaugural Crypto Ball, which celebrated the inauguration of President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., last month.
Wayans volunteered Soulja Boy's name, saying, "I mean, Soulja Boy, he's been canceled. Nobody cares who Soulja Boy is. Soulja Boy better go and get that check. I don't think he's had hits in..." Wayans made a noise indicating it had been a long time. He added, "He don't care."
Wayans also took a moment to defend the artists from criticism by denouncing the "public skewering" of these musicians. "We are divided enough," he said.
"To be honest with you, I don't know if they knew it was an underwritten (by) Trump event. I've done things for Bitcon, right, and a lot of people don't really know about Bitcoin like that," he surmised of the rappers' intentions. "I think they thought it was a Bitcoin event, and they came to find out it was a ball" for Trump.
Nelly has spoken out about his performance, saying it was not a politically-motivated move.
"I respect the office," Nelly told Willie D in a YouTube stream. "This isn't politics. The politics, for me, it's over. He won. He's the president. He's the commander-in-chief of what I would like to say is the best country in the world."
He added: "If President Biden would have asked me to perform, I would have performed. If Vice President Kamala Harris would have won and asked me to perform, I would have performed."
