Tony Hawk wishes Kurt Cobain had lived to see 'our wondrous grandchild' in emotional post
Tony Hawk is getting reflective about Kurt Cobain.
The skateboarder, whose son is married to the late Nirvana rocker's daughter, wrote in a since-expired Instagram story that he wishes Cobain had lived to see their kids' child.
"I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild," Hawk said.
In the Instagram story, Hawk also shared a ticket stub from a Nirvana concert in October 1991. He recalled the show was "as transformative as live music can possibly be," adding, "We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same."
Riley Hawk, Tony's 32-year-old son, has been married to Frances Bean Cobain, Kurt's 32-year-old daughter, since 2023. The couple welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, in September.
Tony Hawk celebrated the news at the time by commenting on Instagram, "My favorite grandson!" On the "Hawk vs Wolf" podcast, he said that being a grandfather is "one of the most fun things ever."
"You have the wealth of experience from being a parent, and so you're not freaking out about everything, everything kind of comes naturally, but also you get to be the fun adult," he said.
While announcing the birth of her "beautiful son" last year, Frances Bean Cobain, whose mother is Courtney Love, said on Instagram, "We love you more than anything." She has previously opened up about the loss of her father, who died by suicide in 1994, when she was 20 months old.
"I wish I could've known my Dad," she wrote in an Instagram post last year marking the 30th anniversary of his death. "I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story. I always wondered if he would've caught tadpoles with me during the muggy Washington summers, or if he smelled of Camel Lights & strawberry nesquik (his favorites, I’ve been told)."
She continued, "But there is also deep wisdom being on an expedited path to understanding how precious life is. He gifted me a lesson in death that can only come through the LIVED experience of losing someone. It's the gift of knowing for certain, when we love ourselves & those around us with compassion, with openness, with grace, the more meaningful our time here inherently becomes."
