Oscar-award winning actor Gene Hackman has died, along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office told Reuters on Thursday.

The 95-year-old actor and 64-year-old Arakawa were found dead in their home around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a sheriff's statement provided to Reuters. As of Thursday morning, foul play was not suspected.

Known as an emotionally-honest, rugged character actor, Hackman won two Oscars throughout his six-decade acting career. He received Best Actor for his role as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in the 1971 action-crime "The French Connection" and Best Supporting Actor for his role as Little Bill Daggett in the 1992 Western "Unforgiven."

Other notable roles Hackman played include Lex Luthor in the '80s "Superman" franchise, Defense Secretary David Brice in the 1987 thriller "No Way Out," Capt. Frank Ramsey in the 1995 action-thriller "Crimson Tide" and Avery Tolar in the 1993 mystery "The Firm."
