'Othello' premiere photos: Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Joe Biden, more stars light up Broadway
The Broadway premiere of "Othello" was anything but a tragedy.
On Sunday, a bevy of stars flocked to the Barrymore Theatre in New York City to check out the opening night revival of the classic William Shakespeare play, which stars award-winning actors Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal as Othello and Iago, respectively.
The Hollywood heavyweights are joined by a supporting cast that includes Molly Osborne and Andrew Burnap.
Othello follows a venerated Marine Corps general (Washington), who is driven to jealousy and rage by his conniving junior officer Iago (Gyllenhaal). Incensed when he is passed over for a promotion, Iago sets out to poison Othello against his virtuous young wife, Desdemona (Osborne), claiming she is having an affair with the handsome lieutenant Cassio (Burnap).
Washington and Gyllenhaal's performances earned praise from Paste BN's Patrick Ryan, who called the play a "formidable showcase for the actors" in a review following the show's debut.
