Is George Stephanopoulos leaving 'GMA'? What we know about the ABC morning-show anchor

George Stephanopoulos, a co-host of "Good Morning America," missed a few days on ABC's morning show, but he returned to the air on Monday, July 1.
Any time TV anchors, reporters or personalities aren't on the shows we expect them to be for any extended period of time — or even short periods of time, really — questions arise among faithful viewers. Where are they? Why are they not on the show? When will they return? Are they actually leaving the show for good?
And this is exactly what has happened in Stephanopoulos' case, with viewers wondering whether he might be leaving the show entirely.
Is George Stephanopolous leaving 'GMA'
Stephanopolous is not, in fact, leaving the show. He was on vacation with his family when his father, the Rev. Robert George Stephanopolous, died on June 19. Ali Wentworth, George Stephanopoulos' wife, announced the death on her Instagram page.
"He was my father-in-law and I loved him dearly," Wentworth posted. "He married us. He laughed with us. He debated our daughters. He praised my Thanksgiving turkey. He loved ice cream. He was everyone’s council. He married or baptized almost every Greek on the eastern seaboard. He was held in the highest regard. He will be missed by so many. Sagapo Father Bob."
