Lady Gaga set to star as 'Black Widow' in Ridley Scott's Gucci family drama

Lady Gaga is moving from pop star drama in "A Star Is Born" to a murder drama centered around the Gucci family fashion dynasty.

Gaga's first role since her Oscar-nominated performance as Ally in "A Star Is Born" (she won an Oscar for best song) is set around a sensational tale of murder, betrayal, high fashion and money.

The singer/actress, 33, is now set to star as Italian socialite Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, grandson of the vaunted fashion house's founder, Guccio Gucci. The drama will be directed by Ridley Scott, Scott's publicist Simon Hall confirms. The movie details were first reported by industry website Deadline.

"A Star Is Born" heartbreak: Let's discuss that final act

The wealthy socialite Reggiani was dubbed the "Black Widow" by the Italian media after she was tried and convicted of hiring a hit-man to kill her philandering ex-husband. Gucci was shot from behind on March 27, 1995, walking up the steps to his Milan office by a gunman who sped away in a green Renault Clio car.

As the New York Times noted during Reggiani's trial, "the sordid tale of the Gucci family combines all the elements guaranteed to perk up a jaded public: sex, money, vengeance — and designer shoes."

Reggiani, who served 18 years in prison for the crime, is famous for her classic line, ''I would rather weep in a Rolls-Royce than be happy on a bicycle.''

Scott has worked in this genre before, directing "All The Money In The World" about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, which earned an Oscar nomination for Christopher Plummer as family patriarch J. Paul Getty.
