The Karate Kid is back − this time with the plot remixed.
On Tuesday, Sony released the first trailer for "Karate Kid: Legends," the franchise's sixth installment.
The film, slated for release next year, centers around a student-becomes-teacher plot. In his inaugural role, Ben Wang stars as Li Fong, a young man who moves from Beijing to New York City after a family tragedy.

Ralph Machio, who played precocious teen Daniel LaRusso in the original 1984 "Karate Kid" movie, revives his character − now an elder statesman of the sport.
Fong struggles to fit in and when a new friend needs help he enters a karate competition, only to discover his skills may not be up to par, the film's synopsis reveals.
His kung fu teacher Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan, enlists LaRusso for help, arguing in the trailer that Fong is to him what La Russo was once to Mr. Miyagi, the central teacher character in the original film.
The movie appears to be a mash-up of two east asian unarmed fitting styles: karate and kung fu. The synopsis previews a "merging" of the two styles for "the ultimate martial arts showdown."
'Karate Kid' films and 'Cobra Kai' Netflix spinoff
Macchio has made a career out of his breakout role, starring in the original trilogy "The Karate Kid," "The Karate Kid Part II" and "The Karate Kid Part III" before appearing as LaRusso in countless advertisements and spinoffs.
The latest installment, "Cobra Kai," a series that streams on Netflix, sees LaRusso up against his longtime foe Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Macchio nabbed an Emmy now in 2021 for his role as executive producer on the show.
When does 'Karate Kid: Legends' come out?
The film is set to hit theaters on May 30.
