A new documentary about Selena y Los Dinos, narrated mainly by her father Abraham Quintanilla, has premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival this week.

The documentary titled "Selena y Los Dinos" provides an inside look into the life and legacy of the late Tejano singer through never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos and interviews with her family and bandmates, according to Udiscovermusic.com

“Selena y Los Dinos takes audiences on a compelling journey through Selena's rise from a young girl in Corpus Christi to a cultural icon whose voice continues to resonate with fans around the world," states a news release. "The documentary, which also touches on issues of race and gender, paints a vivid portrait of Selena’s enduring influence, chronicling her career, her impact on Latin music, and the lasting imprint she left on both her community and the world.”

The film, produced alongside AMSI Entertainment and Motto Pictures, has been praised for capturing Selena's humanity and status as a Tejano icon.

When did Selena Quintanilla start singing?

Selena started singing as a child with her family's band Selena y Los Dinos. Her father Abraham Quintanilla was a musician and encouraged his kids to follow in music. The family band including father Abraham, brother A. B., sister Suzette, and Selena, became a professional band in 1981.

What year did Selena die?

Selena was killed on March 31, 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar, in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, Texas during a confrontation. Saldívar was the former president of the Selena fan club and a manager of Selena's clothing boutiques. She is serving a life sentence at the Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas.

Is Yolanda Saldívar out of prison?
