Always a nominee, never the Oscar winner.

Acclaimed Boston actor Edward Norton has been a nominee three times at the Oscars before.

However, the "Fight Club" star has never won an Academy Award in his decades-long career in Hollywood.

This year's awards show could change that.

Norton is up for this year's Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, having been nominated for the fourth time for his role as folk musician Pete Seeger in the Bob Dylan biopic, "A Complete Unknown."

However, Norton will have to contend with another hardworking actor born in Boston for the award, Jeremy Strong, as the "Succession" lead was nominated for his role in Donald Trump biopic, "The Apprentice."

Here's what to know about the acting veteran.

Where did Edward Norton go to college

Norton, who was born in Boston and then raised in Maryland, went to Yale College in New Haven, Connecticut.

Norton graduated from Yale College with a bachelor's degree in history in 1991. He also acted in college theater productions, competitively rowed and studied Japanese.

What movie made Edward Norton famous

Norton's film career skyrocketed with his role in Richard Gere's crime thriller "Primal Fear" as accused murderer Aaron Stampler.

It was for his critically lauded role as Stampler that Norton would receive his first Academy Awards nomination by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Supporting Actor in 1996. That year's Best Supporting Actor award would go to Cuba Gooding Jr. in "Jerry Maguire."

Norton would go on to be nominated by the Academy for various acting roles in films "Birdman" and "American History X" and this year's "A Complete Unknown."

Who is Edward Norton's wife

Norton is married to Shauna Robertson. They had dated for six years before Norton proposed in 2011; they would get married the year later.

Norton and Robertson have two children together.
