Why did Daniel Day-Lewis retire?
The three-time best actor Oscar winner abruptly retired in 2017, shortly before he received yet another best actor nomination for "Phantom Thread."
"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," his representative Leslee Dart said at the time. "He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."
Day-Lewis has yet to comment on his decision to return to acting.
