Shaboozey receives 5 Grammy nominations as country star's breakout year continues
Shaboozey is continuing to have a groundbreaking year, receiving a total of five nominations at the 67th annual Grammy Awards.
The "Cowboy Carter" collaborator is up for best new artist along with song of the year, best country song and best country solo performance for his smash hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." He is also nominated for best melodic rap performance for his feature on Beyoncé's song "Spaghettii" along with country music pioneer Linda Martell.
"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" is also up for best remixed recording, but that award would go to the remixer, David Guetta.
Shaboozey's banner year kicked off when he was featured on "Spaghettii" and "Sweet Honey Buckin'" from Beyoncé's eighth album "Cowboy Carter," which sent shock waves throughout the internet when it was released March 29.
Shortly after, Shaboozey's "A Bar Song" single, which interpolates the throwback rap song "Tipsy" by J-Kwon, became one of the best selling country songs in the U.S. The song has allowed the Nigerian-American to break many records and so far has spent 16 weeks atop Billboard's Hot 100 chart, matching the longest reign this decade, according to the outlet.
To date, the ubiquitous tune now ties Harry Styles' "As It Was" as the second-longest-running No. 1 single by a solo artist in American history.
The nominations may come as no surprise for the rising superstar. The singer dropped his latest album "Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going" on May 31, and has since to forged a blazing career.
This year, Shaboozey has rocked many stages including at the 2024 BET Awards in Los Angeles where he brought out J-Kwon for an epic performance. His appearance along with fellow "Cowboy Carter" collaborator Tanner Adell also fell into the larger picture of the expansion and inclusion of the country music genre in that award show.
The "Spaghettii" singer won big at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards in September, taking home the awards for new artist and new artist song for "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." He was also nominated for song of 2024 and male song, along with music video for "Let it Burn," album for "Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going" and crossover song for “My Fault” feating Noah Cyrus.
Shaboozey also received his first nominations for the annual Country Music Association Awards, to be held Nov. 20 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. He was nominated for new artist of the year and single of the year for "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," and is poised to perform the viral song and his new single "Highway" at the award show.
The Grammy Awards will take place Feb. 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
