“Record Store Day is so important, and I really hope to do my part to keep it alive,” Malone said in a statement that accompanied the announcement. “We love hitting local shops when we’re on the road, seeing all the crazy artwork … the whole energy in a record store is just super inspiring.
“I feel at home. It’s really an unexplainable feeling to hit up a shop and dig through crates, just see what grabs your eye. You can be looking for something super specific and end up finding something totally different. It’s the best. Keep supporting y’all and let’s keep records and these local shops going strong. Happy Record Store Day everybody!”

What’s the backstory of Post Malone’s Record Store Day Nirvana tribute?
Post Malone’s original YouTube livestream of Nirvana was produced at his Salt Lake City home in April 2020, during the early days of pandemic lockdowns. At the time, it raised funds for the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund to benefit the World Health Organization.
On the songs, Malone was accompanied by drummer Travis Barker (Blink-182), bassist Brian Lee (Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber) and guitarist Nick Mack (Macklemore, Machine Gun Kelly). The setlist featured a wide-range of covers, from “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle” and “Lounge Act” to “On A Plain” to “Heart-Shaped Box.”
The RSD offering marks the “official” release of the Nirvana session, which will be pressed on yellow vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day 2025.
The new vinyl release also will have a charitable component, with 100% of net proceeds to be donated to MusiCares’s Addiction Recovery/Mental Health division.
Founded by the Recording Academy in 1989 as a 501(c)(3) charity, MusiCares safeguards the well-being of those in the music industry through financial grant programs, networks of support resources, and tailored crisis relief efforts.
