Beyoncé thanks Paul McCartney for writing 'Blackbird' — 'one of the best songs ever made'
Beyoncé-Knowles-Carter is giving Paul McCartney his flowers for his 1968 Beatles’ song "Blackbird," which she covers on her eighth studio album, "Cowboy Carter" and performs on tour — calling it one of the best songs ever made.
The Grammy-winning singer posted to her Instagram following her sixth and final show in London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour.
In a post on Instagram she shared a series of photos from the June 16 show, where she debuted a head-turning look as an an ode to the tune "Blackbird" and songwriter McCartney, donning a blackbird shirt —designed by McCartney's daughter — with fringe chaps.
She wrote: “Thank you, Sir Paul McCartney, for writing one of the best songs ever made. Every time I sing it I feel so honored. And it is a full circle moment to wear your beautiful daughter’s design. Thank you, London, for creating unforgettable memories for me and my family. Holla at ‘ya when I come on tour again!”
Beyoncé has included the song on the set list on her tour and has reiterated her love for it at each show. The tune is inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and Beyoncé covers it for her album along with four Black women in country music — Tiera Kennedy, Brittney Spencer, Tanner Adell and Reyna Roberts.
As fans know, Beyoncé first debuted her "Cowboy Carter" tour at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with 39 songs on the set list. Her shows have been filled with family, fashion, different music genres, and most notably country music and cultural commentary.
The nine-city tour will span the U.S. and Europe with the grand finale taking place in Las Vegas on July 26.
Beyoncé wrapped her U.K. leg in London June 16 and is now headed to Paris for three nights on June 19, 21 and 22. Follow Caché McClay, the Paste BN Network's Beyoncé Knowles-Carter reporter, on Instagram, TikTok and X as @cachemcclay.
