Coldplay's Chris Martin reacts as couple on concert screen sparks awkward moment

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin couldn't have anticipated just how awkward he made one concert moment.
During a Boston stop on the rock band's Music of the Spheres world tour Wednesday, July 16, Martin provided commentary as a concert camera panned to a couple embracing, before the moment quickly went from romantic to uncomfortable. After the pair realized they were on camera, as seen in a viral social media video, the woman turned around to hide her face, and the man ducked down, seeming to gesture for the camera to move on. Another woman looked on with an uneasy smile.
"Come on, you're OK!" Martin, 48, tries to tell the couple before quipping: "Uh oh. Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy."
After the couple shrank away from being filmed, Martin said, "I hope we didn't do something bad," and later, "I'm not quite sure what to do."
The viral moment has inspired fan speculation and internet sleuthing about who the couple is and why they seemed so against being on camera.
Later during the concert, when another couple was on the "kiss cam," Martin checked if that pair was in fact dating. "Now listen, are you two a legitimate couple?" the vocalist asked, as seen in X videos. After the pair were slow to respond, he joked: "OK, I'm just going to risk it."
Coldplay has been on the lengthy Music of the Spheres tour since 2022, and in that time has made a number of headlines, including in India when Martin thanked Mumbai fans for "forgiving us" over British colonialism, and in Australia, when Martin fell through a trap door on stage, though he didn't get seriously hurt.
Coldplay is headed to sold-out concerts in Madison, Wisconsin, on July 19, Nashville on July 22 and Miami July 26-27 before heading back across the pond and wrapping up in London. The tour is currently set to end in September.
