'Watchmen' wins big at TCA Awards; 'Succession,' 'Schitt's Creek,' Alex Trebek also honored

"Watchmen" and its network, HBO, were the big winners in the 36th Annual TCA Awards, the Television Critics Association announced Monday.
The searing drama, inspired by a legendary graphic novel and infused with commentary about our real-world racial reckoning, received four awards, including the biggest prize for the 2019-20 TV season, Program of the Year, and Individual Achievement in Drama, which was awarded to Oscar and Emmy winner Regina King.
"Watchmen," which introduced many viewers to the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, also triumphed in the new program and and miniseries categories, contributing to HBO's overall haul of six TCA Awards. The one-season drama, written and produced by Damon Lindelof ("Lost," "The Leftovers"), has 26 nominations going into Sunday's Primetime Emmy Awards (ABC, 8 EDT/5 PDT), the most of any series.
Other programs recognized include HBO's "Succession," ESPN's "The Last Dance" and Pop TV's "Schitt’s Creek." Two entertainment legends, "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek and the original "Star Trek" TV series, also received honors.
Winners were chosen by the vote of TCA members, a group of more than 250 TV critics and journalists from the U.S. and Canada.
