"Bluey" is headed to the big screen for the first time.

The Walt Disney Company announced Tuesday that a film with BBC Studios is in the works, slated to follow the life of the popular blue heeler pup Bluey and her younger sister Bingo of a cartoon Australian dog family, for a 2027 release date. The show originally aired in Australia before it was picked up by Disney+.

"Bluey" was the most-watched kids show of 2023 and 2024 across platforms, according to Nielsen reports. "Bluey" creator Joe Brumm is set to write and direct the film, which will "continue the adventures" of Bluey and Bingo.

"I've always thought 'Bluey' deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together," Brumm said in a Disney press release.

The Peabody and Emmy Award-winning "Bluey," which is available in over 140 countries, is the most-watched global series of the year on Disney+, the company's signature on-demand streaming service.

In April, the show released a buzzy "Bluey" special called "The Sign," which Brumm says helped inspire the upcoming film because he "really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format." "So going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that," he said.

The episode title refers to the "For Sale" sign in front of the Heeler home that caused many adult fans to fear that the family was on the cusp of a significant move for patriarch Bandit's new job. Bluey is not happy about the impending move, and neither is her mother, Chilli, despite her efforts to be supportive.

The upcoming move looms in the background for much of an episode that is otherwise framed around a wedding celebration of Bandit's brother Radley to Frisky.
