'Fun way to shake up TV'

Quinta Brunson, who is also a showrunner, while speaking on "Live with Kelly and Mark" just before the season premiere said she's "really excited" about the crossover episode this season.

"These are two shows that take place in Philadelphia," Brunson said. "We take place in west Philadelphia, they take place in South, so it's just really cool to bring them together. Our city is very diverse and (has) different pockets, but we interact with each other all the time and so this is like a perfect example of that on screen."

In a separate interview with US Weekly, Brunson called the collaboration "a fun way to shake up TV."

"I think it's unexpected and I think that it'll be like a delight to the audience of both shows," Brunson had told US Weekly.

"Abbott Elementary" follows a "group of dedicated, passionate teachers and a slightly tone-deaf principal" who are "determined to help their students" at a Philadelphia public school thrive despite the odds stacked against them, the show's official synopsis says.

On the other hand, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," which debuted in 2005, follows "five ne’er-do-wells" - Mac, Dennis, Charlie, Sweet Dee and Frank - who own and operate Paddy’s Pub in Philadelphia, reads the show's synopsis.

"Their constant scheming usually lands them in a world of hurt, yet they never seem to learn from their mistakes," it adds.

How many episodes will Season 4 of 'Abbott Elementary' have?

Season 4 of "Abbott Elementary" is expected to have 22 episodes, according to ABC.
