Bloody Sunday in Iraq: 5 attacks, at least 29 dead

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for Sunday's fiery assault at a natural gas plant outside Baghdad that left at least 14 dead. The assault marked the latest in a series of brutal attacks that left more than 100 Iraqis dead in the war-weary nation. Four other bomb attacks in and around the capital on Sunday killed at least 15 more people, according the Associated Press, all of which targeted commercial areas.

8 killed in south Texas charter bus crash, officials say

At least eight people were killed and 44 others injured when a charter bus crashed Saturday on a highway in south Texas. The bus was headed to a casino in Eagle Pass, about 125 miles northwest of Laredo. The National Transportation Safety Board will the investigate the crash, the cause of which is unknown.

Controlled explosion at Manchester United's Old Trafford; not a 'viable device'

A bomb disposal unit carried out a controlled explosion at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium on Sunday after a suspect package was discovered before a game between United and Bournemouth. The dismantling of what police described as an “incredibly lifelike explosive device” came amid increased security at Premier League stadiums following last year’s Paris attacks that targeted the nearby Stade de France sports stadium. Nearly four hours after the evacuation, police announced that the suspect package was not a “viable device.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers' Kiedis hospitalized; show canceled

The Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage Saturday, but not to perform as scheduled. Band member Flea made an announcement about the group's lead singer. "Anthony (Kiedis) is on his way to the hospital right now, and we're unable to play this evening. We are devastated about it," he said at the KROQ Weenie Roast festival in Irvine, California, which the group was set to headline. "Unfortunately, there's a medical thing that happened, and he needed to deal with it."

Second Utah kidnapping suspect arrested after father turns himself in

A 22-year-old man was arrested late Saturday in western Wyoming on suspicion that he and his father kidnapped a woman and her four teenage daughters in Centerville, Utah, police said. Dereck James “DJ” Harrison, 22, was captured after a day-long search of the area launched after the surrender of Dereck's father, 51-year-old Flint Wayne Harrison. The men are accused of luring a woman and her four teenage daughters to a house in Centerville and tying them up in the basement. The woman and her daughters are recovering.
