Rory McIlroy to shrink golf schedule in 2013
Sometimes less is more. So expect to see less of the world's No.1 golfer next year.
Which he hopes will translate into more good things at the end of the year.
Rory McIlroy wants to keep the freshness date on his golf game longer into the season so he'll be playing less. He decided that after getting dusted by Tiger Woods in a match they played in Turkey.
"....the level of intensity he displays is impressive as he can just turn it on. It's something that I struggle to do sometimes," McIlroy told espn.co.uk.
Besides the 21 tournaments thus far this season, McIlroy also played in the Ryder Cup and is expected to appear in both Dubai and China.
He says "I would just love to cut my schedule back even further and I think next year I will cut it down again to a max play of 22 or 23."
Until then he is committed to winning "the Race to Dubai and repeat what Luke (Donald) did also winning the money list on the PGA Tour, so I am going to give it one last push.It has been a great season and I am ready to be done. It is just such a long season these days. But then I feel I have got an obligation to play some of these big events leading up to Dubai."
