NFL Gangnam Style: Mike Tolbert vs. Jason Pierre-Paul vs. Steve Johnson (VIDEO)
It's hard to believe it took until Week 7 for the South Korean dance craze "Gangnam Style" to make an appearance on the football field. It feels like ages ago I was watching rapper Psy perform the dance on Ellen. (Wait, did I say Ellen? I meant -- oh, it's too late. I love Ellen. I'm not ashamed.)
On Sunday, the popular rodeo-like dance that has bafflingly taken over television (it was mocked on Saturday Night Live), Internet (the YouTube video has 522 million views), pop radio (it's No.2 on the charts) and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs nationwide (I'm just guessing) was performed by at least three NFL players: Mike Tolbert of the Carolina Panthers, Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants and Stevie Johnson of the Buffalo Bills.
Here's the NFL's video compilation, complete with other Week 7 dances:
Who did it best? We evaluate:
Timing
JPP: After sack that led to fumble
Johnson: After touchdown
Tolbert: After touchdown that led to a loss in which Cam Newton offered to bring the media a suggestion box
Advantage: JPP
Gangnam Style style
JPP: If his accuracy is any indication, 300,000 of those 522 million YouTube hits are from Pierre-Paul
Johnson: Brought the funk, but not the accuracy
Tolbert: Low center of gravity
Advantage: JPP
Gangnam faux pas
JPP: Gangnaming while the ball was still alive
Johnson: Looks like he started out by doing Conan O'Brien's string dance
Tolbert: Did it in a crowd, thus depriving the crowd of his horse trot appeal
Disadvantage: JPP
Intangibles
JPP: First-ever Gangnam Styling of RGIII
Johnson: No horse gallop brings 0.60 point deduction
Tolbert: Big men dancing is always funny
Advantage: Tolbert
Winner: Mike Tolbert
