The special meaning behind FGCU star Brett Comer's tattoos
Florida Gulf Coast became the first 15-seed to advance to the Sweet 16 in large part to the spectacular play of point guard Brett Comer, who dished out alley-oop passes left and right, racking up 24 assists in FGCU's two upset victories.
If you watched closely, you may have noticed a verse tattooed on the side of Comer's right arm. Comer wrote the words himself, in tribute to his late father, Troy Comer, who died three years ago after a battle with lung cancer. The tattoo reads:
Happiness is not something ready made
It comes from your own actions
You may not control all the events that happen to you
But you can decide not to be reduced by them
Love never hate; forgive but never forget
Live the life you've dreamed to the fullest
-- Pursuit of Happiness
On the inside of his arm, Comer tattooed the name of his father, along with the dates of his birth and death. He uses the message as an inspiration, and touches the tattoo prior to tipoff at every game.

"I feel like all that combined is leading to my pursuit of happiness. It's something that reminds me not to let the negatives bring you down, not to let stuff get in your head, to keep positivity and positive things around you and not have negative thoughts and feelings and people around you that are trying to bring you down."
