Kim Jong Un's high-security train has heavy armor, great food and is really, really slow

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un won't fly or use a bullet train but will instead take a slow-moving, high-security bulletproof train to Russia for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

Kim is traveling from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, to Vladivostok, about 4,000 miles east of Moscow. The 680-mile journey is expected to take about 20 hours. That includes a stop at the Russian border for a few hours to change its wheels for those that will fit on Russian train tracks.

Kim's armor-plated train, green with yellow stripes, has about 20 carriages and a top speed of about 37 mph because of its weight.

South Korean media reports characterize the train as luxurious, with reception halls, conference rooms, sleeping quarters and high-tech communications gear. Those traveling aboard the train are treated with gourmet meals.

The journey is Kim's first overseas trip in more than four years. The train reportedly left Pyongyang on Monday.

For security reasons, Kim has three trains for travel, The Associated Press reports. One travels ahead of Kim's train to make sure the tracks are safe. Another, carrying security personnel, follows behind him. Helicopters and aircraft provide additional security.

In the past, the train was used by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Ill, Kim's father and grandfather, both of whom led the country.

Western officials believe Kim and Putin will talk about greater military cooperation. It's possible that Russia may purchase weapons from North Korea to use against Ukraine.
