Tim Walz's family tree: A guide to Kamala Harris' running mate

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, has roots deep in the Midwest.

Walz, 60, was raised in a small community in Nebraska, where he says his parents taught him the importance of working for the common good and serving the public. His father was a public school administrator and his mother was a community activist.

After high school, Walz enlisted in the Army National Guard, attended college and became a teacher in 1989, where he met his wife, Gwen.  In 2006, he won his first election to the U.S. House of Representatives and was reelected fives times. He was elected governor of Minnesota in 2018 and was reelected in 2022.

In his brief vice presidential campaign, Walz has frequently spoken about his family. Here's a quick look at who's who.
