A Friendsgiving comic: How do people celebrate the holiday?

There is no one size fits all when it comes to celebrating Thanksgiving. While many Americans share a traditional meal with family, others spend time with friends around the holiday. The celebration of 'Friendsgiving' has become more popular in recent years.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines Friendsgiving as a celebration or meal shared among friends on or near Thanksgiving Day. The term dates back to a 2007 tweet, according to Delish, but others say credit is owed to the TV show Friends. No matter its origin story, Friendsgiving has quickly become as special as any other holiday celebration.

Friendsgiving is often celebrated with a potluck – guests bring homemade dishes like sweet potato casserole, stuffing and pie. Friendsgiving can swap in for the usual Thanksgiving meal or can be an additional celebration during the holiday season.

We asked Paste BN reporters, readers and their friends how they celebrate the faux holiday. From gratitude-themed PowerPoint presentations and potlucks, crafts and 'cabinsgiving,' Americans are inventing creative traditions to honor their friendships.
