NFL playoff picture? From NFC to AFC, what a win means to every team this week

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-6) travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, this weekend to play the Carolina Panthers (3-8), they can have the biggest impact of any team this week on their playoff hopes.

The Buccaneers enter Week 13 with a 50% chance of making the playoffs, according to Next Gen Stats as of 5 p.m. ET Wednesday. Beat the Panthers, who have just a 1% chance of a playoff berth, and their chances rise to 61%. Lose and they tumble to 29%.

In the NFC, five teams have playoff chances that are close to a coin flip depending on this week's outcomes. And each can significantly improve their postseason hopes, according to Next Gen Stats. In the AFC, the Denver Broncos sit alone with a 65% chance. Six other teams have a 88% chance or better.

NFL Thanksgiving schedule could offer two turkeys

In the first two games of Thanksgiving Day, The Dallas Cowboys (4-7) are the only team that can improve its playoff chances incrementally with a win or loss in their NFC East meeting with the New York Giants (2-9). With a second consecutive win the Cowboys could lift their playoff chances to 4%. Lose and they fall to 1%. The Detroit Lions (10-1) host the Chicago Bears (4-7) in the first game of the afternoon.
