Nintendo Switch 2 preorders are sold out. What makes this new console different?
The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 video game console opened its preorder sales for U.S. customers on April 24 and sold out of inventory from multiple retailers within a couple hours.
Nintendo will start distributing the $449.99 console June 5. Retailers GameStop, Target, Walmart and Best Buy have offered preorders, but Amazon has not announced when or if it will offer preorders.
Since Nintendo first released the original Switch console in 2017, it released two other models of the console: a smaller one called the Nintendo Switch Lite and a bigger one called the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model.
What makes the Nintendo Switch 2 different?
The Switch 2 has the same foundation as its predecessor, but it's larger and boasts enhanced performance and more storage capacity.
The Switch 2 offers a new chat feature that allows players to communicate with up to 12 other people while playing. It will also include a new built-in mic and an additional USB-C port on top of the device to either attach a camera or charge while playing.
Another major change is that the Joy-Cons – the detachable controllers on both sides of the screen – have been redesigned to attach magnetically to the screen and can be used like a computer mouse on surfaces.

What games will the Nintendo Switch 2 have?
Releasing alongside the console is a Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World, which can be purchased in a bundle with the console for an extra $50. It's $80 bought separately. The game allows up to 24 players to race at once and lets players drive off the racetrack and go anywhere in the game's world.
Other Switch 2 games include:
◾ Donkey Kong Bananza will release July 17.
◾ Kirby Air Riders will release before the year's end.
◾ Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will release for both Switch 2 and Switch.
Several games for the original Switch will have Switch 2 editions, with enhanced graphics and for some games, such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree, new content or gameplay. Players who already own the original games can purchase a Switch 2 Edition upgrade for the games.
