Jessie recs some m/m romance from her TBR pile
I met a lot of interesting authors at this year's RT Booklovers Convention (RT13), and I finally got to read (and re-read) five off the top of my TBR pile. Below are excellent reads to make you laugh, sigh, giggle, cry and blush over.
Comedic m/m romance
Sno Ho by Ethan Day
This is for fans of hot banter, snow bunnies, a one-night stand that ends up being something more and a Happy For Now that I am happy to admit gets resolved in later books! I enjoyed the characters, the plot was really adorable and the interaction between the hunks was priceless.
Boone has just been dumped, and heads off to the bar to do what most post-dumped people do … drink their sorrows away. He ends up having a one-night stand with Wade — that he later can't remember. Boone avoids the walk of shame by leaving for a ski lesson, only to have his ski trainer be the one and only Wade of the one-night stand.
Ninja assassin m/m romance
Moonlight, Tiger, and Smoke by Connie Bailey
This book will pull your emotions all over the place. There's kidnapping, punishment, forced labor, forbidden romance, forced prostitution and a whole lot of violence … I will tell you, though, there is a Happy Ever After, so keep reading!
Moonlight and Tiger were taken at 6 years old as payment of a debt. The two are forced over the next six years to fight for everything and rely only on their small group of co-kidnapped kids. At 12 they are split up. Tiger becomes a fighter, and Moonlight becomes part of the Rose group (or the ones who use seduction). What follows next is betrayal and harsh reality. Readers hang on to each touch between the two, each fight that either leads two heroes closer or further apart … and all the way to the end where they will either be happy or dead.
Motorcycle m/m romance
Heart of the Race by Mary Calmes
This was one of the 2013 Daily Dose: Make a Play shorts from Dreamspinner Press. And it has it all: action, heartache, motorcycles, danger and bonds stronger than time. You have Varro, who is a daredevil, always chasing the next adrenaline rush, and Brian, his best friend, foster brother and biggest supporter/anchor. It's a short story, so we don't get to see too much plot and development, but it's a solid-enough world that readers are taken for the ride and enjoy every moment.
Varro and Brian grew up together, loved each other and were always there for one another. That all changed when Brian realized how in love he was with Varro, and Varro was too into girls to realize anything. The plot spans countries, different races and different faces — and has the best HEA possible. For a sweet ride, I'd pick this up.
Angsty contemporary m/m romance
Keeping Promise Rock by Amy Lane
Amy Lane is a mistress of angst, and this book is no exception. It takes readers on highs where you'll laugh and lows where you'll want to fling your book/e-reader. The characters are very flawed and, at times, you might hate them. But stick with it. It's worth the wait!
We have Carrick, who has spent his childhood getting into trouble, and Deacon who has spent his childhood keeping Carrick from getting into too much trouble. The two are connected by strong bonds, but childhood trauma will shape not only their past but their future. Crick has longed for Deacon for years, but will Crick be able to allow the two a future together? If you are one for emotional ties, angsty connections and emotions all over the place, pick it up.
Erotic m/m cowboy romance
No Going Home by T.A. Chase
This book is hot. There are a lot of bedroom scenes and hunky cowboys. You need to go into this one wanting to blush and giggle. I loved Randy and Les and how the two interacted both in and out of bed. Les collects "strays," and Randy is sweet. T.A. world-builds very realistically and gives readers exactly what they want.
After an accident changes Leslie's life and career, he focuses on what truly matters in life and how most perfection comes in imperfect packages. One of these imperfect strays is Randy, who also is injured. They discover passion together, and Les tries to help get Randy strong enough to overcome his injuries as well as his bigoted father. We have cowboys, hot scenes, and true strength. Pick up T.A.'s home series for a steamy good time.
