Flashback Friday: Jessie recs faves from 2010
Here are three of my favorite releases from three years ago this month:
YA paranormal
Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This is one of my all-time-favorite series because Bryn is such a butt-kicker. I mean, in the first book she's human and a part of a wolf pack; she's strong, especially mentally, and her razor-sharp mind makes me want to be her. Bryn starts out as a 15-year-old girl. By the middle of the book, the reader starts seeing her as more and more mature in human and wolf ways. You forget about her age as you become entirely engrossed in her inner workings, strength and instincts. The choices she is faced with are not small; her power is great, and the plot keeps moving forward.
Raised by Wolves has plenty of violence, blood, revenge and reckoning. The most important thing was that nothing ever came easy for Bryn; she suffered, she was beaten, she survived. It was amazing to see someone who was given powers, having to work for them rather than blowing everyone away.
The series so far:
Raised by Wolves
Trial by Fire
Taken by Storm

Paranormal romance
Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston
In June of 2010, one of my favorite authors released the latest book in her Pride series. Beast Behaving Badly is the story of Blayne and Bo. Blayne is crazy. I mean seriously, she's a wolf dog shifter and considered low class; like she cares. She's got crazy, yellow eyes like her daddy and kills just as quickly. She's perplexed when Bo begins to shadow her trying to protect her; what's even more perplexing is that Bo met her ten years ago and still can't get the crazy-eyed she-dog out of his head. Shelly is good for laughs; awesome banter and the best shifters you'll ever meet/read.
The series so far:
Howl For It
The Mane Event
A Pride Christmas in Brooklyn
The Beast in Him
The Man Attraction
The Mane Squeeze
Beast Behaving Badly
Big Bad Beast
Bear Meets Girl
Wolf With Benefits

Paranormal romance
Insatiable by Meg Cabot
OK, it was the cover that first caught my attention (it's pretty cool) and of course the ridiculously awesome trailer that Meg made herself (ya gotta see it), but once I started reading it, it was not only the humor of the situations her characters were in, but the characters themselves, that made reading it worthwhile.
Meena is sick of vampires, but her boss is making her write about them, so of course it stands to reason that she'll find herself in a love triangle between a dark vampire, Lucien, and Alaric, a vampire killer. The sequel is even better than Insatiable, which was a bit slow to begin but is still a really good start to a very humorous series. If you're in the mood for a sweet, funny, anti-vampire/vampire lover book then check out Meg's Insatiable.
The series so far:
Insatiable
Overbite
An untitled third!
