Robin recs trailers for 'Doon,' 'Only Scandal Will Do,' 'A Beastly Scandal'

Hello, friends!

The first day of school went off without a hitch. Supplies are put away in desks, the musical chairs of lunchroom tablemates were navigated successfully and both teachers were declared "cool" — because they didn't give homework the first day. I kicked back over the weekend on a family camping trip with a re-release of a book by Lisa Gardner writing as Alicia Scott. The book, Maggie's Man, was suspenseful, with trademark Gardner savvy and intelligence and super sexy. Pick it up!

I helped judge an unpublished writers' contest last year, and one of the entries blew me away, and I wondered if I would see it in print and get to find out the ending. Well, the book, Doon, by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon is a YA retelling of Brigadoon that is fresh and enchanting. The trailer is equally so. The music and imagery evoke the fun adventure of this time-travel romance with a young woman learning about taking chances on life and love. I love the fog-shrouded stone bridge full of mystery and wonder. Super fun!

If you've read enough of my columns, you know that I'm usually snagged by the music or the imagery in a book trailer. In the case of Only Scandal Will Do by Jenna Jaxon — it was the music. Rich, lush, swashbuckling, suspenseful and evocative of a time long ago, it perfectly fits the story of a Georgian lady kidnapped, sold and seduced by terrible rake … who later tries to steal her heart. The images walk you through the sensual story frame by frame until it ends in a sexy clinch cover. Yes, please.

OK, the next trailer had me at "fairy-tale-inspired" (I'm a diehard Grimm fan). This video for A Beastly Scandal by Shereen Vedam has the quirkiest, lightest soundtrack to lead you through the trailer full of beautiful photos and a plot lined with twists of scandal, murder and danger. The fun, fey-like music underscores the links to this retelling of Beauty and the Beast perfectly.

Remember: You can refer book trailers for a feature spot in the column. They need to be romances (any genre is OK), and I will take a look. You can send your suggestions to robin@robincovingtonromance.com.
