Shakir Rashaan takes a moment to get mushy with HEA

Shakir Rashaan, author of Legacy (out today!), joins HEA to share three of his favorite love songs. (And while you're here, check out yesterday's awesome interview with Shakir by HEA contributor Michelle Monkou.)

Shakir: I had some time to think about this one, and the three that came to mind were pretty easy to list.

No Ordinary Love by Sade

This one has sentimental value because it was the song that was played when my Beloved walked down the aisle to me. It describes my marriage to her perfectly, not to mention the marriage that Ramesses and Neferterri have in my Nubian Underworld series. The hook on this song is hypnotic: "This … is … no ordinary love … no ordinary love."

Un-Thinkable by Alicia Keys

I love this song for its powerful message, and it's a very sexy, very sensual song, especially to have Alicia Keys on the vocals. Although the video theme centered on interracial relationships, the song's message can relate to any alternative relationship nowadays. The hook gets me going every time: "If we do the un-thinkable, would it make us look crazy? If you ask me, I'm ready."

If It's Love by Kem, featuring Chrisette Michele

This song gives me goose bumps whenever I hear it. It reminds me of the time when I was dating my Beloved. This song is equal parts sexy and romantic, and it puts me in a mood every time I listen to it. I love the words on the hook: "If it's love, it'll last a lifetime … deep in my heart, I know."

And speaking of extraordinary, un-thinkable love that'll last a lifetime, the next installment of my Nubian Underworld series, Legacy, digs deeper into the loves between my favorite couple, Ramesses and Neferterri, and the love they share with their submissives, as I spin another sexy tale that is unlike anything else on the market.
