Must-read paranormals: 'Temptation in Shadows,' 'Hell's Kitty,' 'The Wizard King'

Temptation in Shadows by Gena Showalter

While this has previously been published as part of Gena's The Bodyguard anthology, it's being released by itself and is a very quick … tempting (hah) read. Sean Walker is a nightclub bodyguard who is also a controller of shadows and can harness the darkness. All it takes, though, is one woman (doesn't it always?) and Sean will never be the same. I can't say much about this novella's plot without giving it away, but I loved Gabby. She can interface with computers and has abilities out of this world. While I loved Gena's world building, the ending felt rushed (as is usual with most novellas) and I kinda want more! :-)

Some questions for Gena …

Q: Favorite quality of your heroine?

Gena: She's a street-smart firecracker with the ability to download computer files straight into her mind.

Q: Favorite quality of your hero?

Gena: He's a rough-around-the-edges hired killer with the ability to control the shadows around him.

Q: Describe your book in three words …

Gena: Sexy. Thrilling. Creative.

Q: Epic two-liner?

Gena: "You ever touch her like that again and I'll cut off your hands. Ever talk to her like that again and I'll cut out your tongue. Believe me, I'm very good with knives. Do we understand each other?"

Hell's Kitty by Eve Langlais

This is the fourth book in Eve's Welcome to Hell series, and I feel like to really get why readers are so excited about all these characters getting matched you need to read the first three, but these can be read as stand-alones. This time it's about Felipe (a Hellcat), who is basically a player and tries to bed all of Hell's female population. Felipe's job (courtesy of the Lord of Hell, Lucifer) is to escort Jenny, a half mermaid half … something, to the inner ring of Hell. Jenny is hilarious, and I loved reading about her and her aunts. Eve is always a great author to turn to when you want a lot of steam and laughter. She writes sexy heroes and a lot of wit and humor. My favorite character is still Lucifer: He's devious, devilish and basically brilliant. If you haven't read it already, the first book is called A Demon and His Witch. My favorite, though, is the second, A Demon and His Psycho. Eve also writes very, very hot alien books.

Some questions for Eve …

Q: Favorite quality of your heroine?

Eve: Despite her past, Jenny had an indomitable spirit that just couldn't be quenched. I also loved her loyalty to the sirens who raised her, and her courageous nature.

Q; Favorite quality of your hero?

Eve: What wasn't there to love about Felipe? He truly was the cat's meow. lol. Felipe is outspoken, features a humorous personality and a fearless attitude. Not to mention a very feline curiosity thing about people and his environment. Oh, and let's not forget he's very sexy. Rowr!

Q: Describe your book in three words …

Eve: Snort-inducing, adventurous, romance.

Q: Epic one-liner?

Eve: Gosh, that's hard decide lol.

"Unlike her aunts who could charm a man into doing anything they wanted, when Jenny sang, things wanted to kill themselves."

The Wizard King by Dana Marie Bell

Dana Marie Bell is quite fun to read, and this is her third Heart's Desire book, centering on Gareth, who is supposed to take the wizard throne, and Genevieve, who is strong but soooo not ready to be a princess. I can't wait to read this one! (It's on pre-order). I have read the previous two and loved them. Shadow of the Wolf and Hecate's Own.

Some questions for Dana …

Q: Favorite quality of your heroine?

Dana: No matter what life throws at her, she always keeps her cool. And with her family, that's easier said than done.

Q: Favorite quality of your hero?

Dana: He stays himself, despite the fact that half the magical world wants him dead, and the other half wants to own him. He'll stand up to them all to make sure his mate stays by his side.

Q: Describe your book in three words …

Dana: Fun, sexy, and magical.

Q: Epic lines?

Dana:

Gareth turned his head to sniff a particularly interesting scent, wincing at the jingle of the ultimate indignity. They might as well have microchipped his ass, because this? Was never happening again. He should have known better than to send Zach to the pet store.

Who named a god****** wolf Pookie?

Bonus recommended e-only releases …

Souls of the Damned by E.S. Moore

This is the fifth Kat Redding book, and Kat wants some peace between the rogue supernaturals, but Lady Death is about to get a new ward, Sienna. There are fights and then ... there are battles!

Hell on Earth by Ally Blue

This is the second book in Ally's Hellscape books, and I love this series. Sandman wants escape from his past, Vijay can make him feel, can make him hurt, can make him weak, or strong …
