Katie Porter: Recommended reads for total DOM-ination
The writing team of Lorelei Brown and Carrie Lofty, writing as Katie Porter, have a new erotica out, called Own. Lorelei joins us to share some superhot heroes who know how to take charge.
Lorelei: Under the name Katie Porter, Carrie Lofty and I write pretty kinky romance. There's no mistaking what we write — no "well, maybe it's kinky." But even accounting for that, I think we've pushed new boundaries with Own, out now. Evan Sommers is a battle-tested special ops warrior who knows he should keep his hands off his colonel's daughter. He fails in a spectacular fashion. There's dirty talk and orders and Katsu turns out to love submission. More than that, she's lost. Katsu needs order and direction in her life. Lucky for them both, Evan's willing to carry that weight. It's as close to a "total power exchange" lifestyle as we've ever written under the Katie Porter name, since Evan is a Dom both in the bedroom and out.
But Own sure isn't the first of its kind. Since I've had some vacation lately, I've been able to indulge. You know, because nothing says surf and sand like total devotion and handcuffs! Because I love you, I'm going to introduce you to a few heroes who know how to take charge everywhere:
• Hostile Takeover by Joey W. Hill. It's the last of the series, but whether you've read them or not, you sure don't want to miss this smokin' hot book. Ben has a dark past. Like, a really dark past. And he thinks he's too extreme and messed up for Marcie. But Marcie (in one of my favorite tropes ever) has loved Ben for an eternity. She's determined to give him what he needs.
• Finding Master Right by L.A. Witt. It takes place at a leather convention! How unusual and yet awesome cool is that? Derek thinks Chase is still hooked on his ex. Chase is still stinging from when Derek made it painfully clear that he doesn't think Chase is a good bet. I love that these two really try to communicate — there's no Big Misunderstanding here — but they're human beings who can't always get their stuff together. Until they do!
• Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna. OK, technically? This book isn't labeled as either erotic romance or D/s. But in all reality? I'm totally convinced that it is. There's an evil villain who could practically be twirling his mustache, but Seth and Raine's relationship totally make up for it. The sex is really, really hot, and Seth is the kind of incredibly bossy, micromanaging Alpha hero that you either love or hate. Some people called him a total stalker when this book first came out. Me? I call him a total power exchange dom.
• A Dom Is Forever by Lexi Blake. Like Own, this book has a little bit of romantic suspense thrown in with the erotic romance. Liam is a to-die-for kind of Dom. Pushy and protective at the same time. I loved that Avery is absolutely not a perfect girl who belongs on a pedestal. She's got her own dark secrets and things to overcome. But no worries, that's where Liam steps in. (God, I love an Irish hero, too.)
• Wanted by J. Kenner. If you like your Doms to be in the NA range, I really liked this book. It's not as challenging as a Lexi Blake or a Joey Hill title, but Evan is a man who knows what he likes. (Yes! Like Own's Evan. I promise that didn't bias me too badly.) He doesn't lead every part of Angelina's life, but he guides her in an important choice that I can't say too much about or we'll be in spoiler land. Angelina is an adrenaline junky and Evan gives her the rush she's craving.
Because in the end it's all about the heroes giving the heroines what they want, right? I like to think so.
I hope you'll join Katie Porter for the release of Own.
