Christina Lauren: 10 things we're excited about for 'Dirty Rowdy Thing' in audio
Author duo Christina Lauren join HEA to share 10 things they're looking forward to in the Dirty Rowdy Thing audio book, narrated by Shayna Thibodeaux and Sebastian York. Oh, and we have an audio excerpt for you, too. Enjoy!
Christina Lauren: When Simon & Schuster Audio asked us who we had in mind for Finn, barely a second passed before we were yelling Shayna & Sebastian! In Sweet Filthy Boy, narrated by Shayna Thibodeaux, she not only captured Mia's voice and Ansel's accent perfectly, but for the few scenes including Harlow, Shayna completely nailed her voice as well. We knew without a doubt that she would more than do Harlow justice. And Finn — fisherman, man of few words, rugged, loyal ... who else but Sebastian York and his miles-deep voice would do? So here are the top 10 things we are most excited to hear in the Dirty Rowdy Thing audiobook:
10. When Harlow tries to pry information out of Oliver at the store.
Laughing, Oliver says, "You're relentless. He doesn't have a steady girlfriend. Though I will tell you that the steady act is far more his speed than the wild trench-coat-surprise act you prefer."
9. Cinnamon rolls and just friends. Good times.
Harlow carries her own plate and coffee to the counter, sitting on the stool next to me, her foot tangling with mine. "You look like crap," she says, looking at my mouth like she wants to lick it.
"So do you. I'm almost embarrassed for you."
She tilts her head, exposing her long tanned neck. "Hideous?"
"Revolting." I reach forward, wiping a tiny smear of frosting from her lower lip.
8. Oliver giving Finn a lesson in communication.
"Finn, I know you're not a big sharer. I get that. Hell, after spending time with chatterbox Ansel, I even appreciate it at times. But I love you, you're my best mate, and I wouldn't have given you so bloody many chances to confide in me if I didn't actually care what's happening in your life. Talk to me."
7. When Finn confides in Harlow.
"Do you need me to help you think something through," I clarify, "or do you just want to talk it out without interruption?"
"Are you capable of that?"
My face right now. "In fact, I am."
Finn rises from the table, holding out his hand when I start to protest. "I'm going to explain. I want to talk it out, no interruption. I just need another beer first. Or three."
6. Shayna capturing the balance between Harlow's tough exterior and internal meltdown when she finds out her mother is sick.
Tonight I'm missing my usual armor—my social enthusiasm, my confidence, and the ease that comes with knowing life is okay for everyone I know. A tiny alarm in my brain signals that talking to Finn right now might be a terrible idea.
5. The scene with the rope on the couch and ... yeah. That one.
4. Pretty much every scene where Not-Joe makes an appearance.
"I'm Harlow," I say, extending my hand. "And if you want juice, why don't you just drink juice?"
He shakes it. "There is very little trouble to be had in juice," he says, before pointing the bottle at his chest. "Not-Joe."
"'Nacho?'"
"No. Not. Joe. Oliver, my new boss? Calls me Joey. I think he's messing with me, like a kangaroo thing because he's Australian. But it isn't my name."
"So you go by Not-Joe?"
"Yeah!"
"All the time?"
"Yep."
3. Sweet, sweet Finn in love.
He lowers himself, covering my chest in small, sucking kisses. "I needed this tonight."
2. The scene when they go fishing together. Enough said.
1. THE EXCLUSIVE EPILOGUE. That's right — we wrote an epilogue to the story in Finn's POV that will only be in the audio edition! So get your copy and we promise it will make you smile.
