Excerpt: 'It's a Vampire Christmas' by Lia Davis

Lia Davis, author of It's a Vampire Christmas (out now!), shares a favorite scene from her Christmas ménage story, book one of The Vampire Lords series.

Lia: I'm excited to be here and share an exclusive sneak peek from my new release, It's a Vampire Christmas — the first story in a brand new seductive and magical world of vampires and gargoyles.

What better way to kick off a series than with a vampire Christmas ménage?

Alasdair Morgan is the vampire lord of the southeast region of the U.S. and has been mated to Gideon for about 100 years — a whisper of time for long-lived vampires. In searching for a lost journal that belonged to Alasdair's great-grandmother, they are led to the beautiful Rhianna, who turns out to be their third.

In the following snippet the guys have finished decorating the Christmas tree for Rhianna, with her direction, and settle down with her in front of the fire where they share the history of their own love story.

What more could a girl want?

Rhianna pointed to the top of the tree with the hand she held a glass of red wine in. "There's an empty spot."

Glancing from her to the tree, Gideon growled as he walked over to the boxes of glass balls. Holding one of them upside down, he said, "We're all out. Every ornament you bought is on that damn tree."

She tried to pout, but laughed instead. "It's not a damn tree." Moving toward him, she stumbled, but Gideon caught her before she fell on her ass.

Taking her glass from her hand, he handed it to Alas. "I think you've had enough to drink."

"Hey, I'm just getting started." She giggled, but focused as best as she could on the tree. Every color imaginable was on the thing. The lights flashed in time to the music. Okay, so maybe it was the wine that made her think they were. They were still pretty, and colorful.

Alasdair came over to stand on her other side. "It's a beautiful tree."

She glanced from one vampire to the other. "So are both of you."

Gideon laughed and scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the sofa. There was a fire going in the stone fireplace. She watched the orange and red flames flicker and listened to the wood crackle while the guys settled beside her. After what seemed like a long silence, she snuggled into Alasdair's chest, and placed her legs in Gideon's lap. Gideon scooted closer to her and Alasdair. "Tell me your love story."

Alasdair glanced at Gideon, who gave him a short nod, before speaking. "Well, you know I turned him and why I had to do it."

She nodded, picked up Gideon's hand, and kissed his fingers. "Yes. How did you woo him?"

"It took me some time. He stayed with me for the first year after his transition. It wasn't pleasant. Gideon blamed me for making him a monster. Then there was Cassian. Gideon feared the gargoyle and hated all of them because of what Paris did." Pausing, Alasdair cupped Gideon's nape, then began to message the male's neck. Rhianna sighed at the display.

Clearing his throat, Alasdair continued. "I woke one morning and found Gideon gone. I searched for a whole century before finding him hiding in an alley in town living off animals. That's when I knew I had to use tough love, but I couldn't bring him to Lilith in his condition. She'd rule him a rogue and unfit to continue life as a vampire."

"But didn't Lilith give her permission to turn him?" She couldn't image Gideon as a rogue. He had too pure of a heart.

Alas nodded. "All vampires are able to turn rogue. Anyway, I took him to Julian and left him there."

Rhianna gasped. "Is that why there's so much tension between you and my father?"

Gideon nodded and offered her a half-smile. "He kicked my ass daily."

"It was what he needed to learn what it was to live as a vampire," Alasdair said, a hint of regret in his voice.

Hugging Alasdair, Gideon kissed his temple. "Julian pushed me to discover my strengths in a way Alasdair couldn't. I was so filled with hate and confusion. I blamed Alasdair for cursing me."

"When Gideon was ready he came to me. At first I didn't know if he had come to kill me or not." Alasdair stared into Gideon's eyes and Rhianna felt the love between them. Smiling she waited for Alasdair to continue the story.

"To my relief, he didn't come to kill me, but to seek answers Julian refused him. We drank wine by the fire and I answered every question he had. I also revealed that he was my mate and there was no way I could've allowed him to die outside that church."

Rhianna lifted her gaze to Alasdair. "Then what?"

Gideon answered, "I moved back into the beach house and allowed the vampire to seduce me into his bed."

"I've noticed how good he was at getting me in bed yesterday." She giggled.

A low grow rumbled in his chest. "I get what want."

She yawned. "It's been an exciting day."

Alasdair shifted her body and rose to his feet with her in his arms. "I'm taking you to bed."

"Alas."

"Yes?"

She bit her lip. "Can I sleep in your room?"

In unison and almost instantly, both males said, "Yes."

Laughing, she laid her head on Alasdair's shoulder, and closed her eyes. Life seemed so much less complicated with them. She didn't have to hide who she was and she had two hot vampires who'd give her anything she asked. What more could a girl ask for?
