Cover reveals: 'Deception So Deadly' and 'Deception So Dark' by Clara Kensie
Double RITA finalist Clara Kensie joins us to share the new covers of the book compilations of her Run to You serial.
Clara: The past few weeks have been amazing for my debut series, the Young Adult romantic thriller Run to You. It released last year as Harlequin Teen's first serial, it was named to a couple Best Books of 2014 lists, and the first book is finalist in two RITA categories, Young Adult Romance and Best First Book. I'm astounded by the love my little digital serial has received, and now I have even more good Run to You news to share.
The serial …
I originally wrote Run to You as two complete books, and that's how Harlequin Teen bought them. Later, I was shocked when they informed me they were going to serialize the two books into three parts each, with the first book releasing in three installments in February 2014 and the second book releasing in three installments in July 2014. The compilations …
Some readers enjoyed the serial format, but I've received dozens of messages from people who are eager to read the series, but only as two complete books. That's why I was beyond thrilled a few weeks ago when Harlequin Teen decided to compile the serial into two complete, full-length digital books, to be released simultaneously on May 1.
The titles …
The overall title of the series is still Run to You. Run to You book one (originally published in three installments as First Sight, Second Glance and Third Charm) is now Deception So Deadly. Run to You book two (originally published in three installments as Fourth Shadow, Fifth Touch and Sixth Sense) is now Deception So Dark.
The covers …
The romance in Run to You is very sweet, as the serial covers implied, and the pastel colors looked pretty as a six-pack of thumbnails. But the Run to You series is a romantic thriller. It's about a family on the run from a deadly past, and a first love that transcends secrets, lies and danger. The tagline is Danger. Deception. Betrayal. It must be true love. I wanted the compilation covers to emphasize that.
And that's exactly what Harlequin Teen did. They took the two strongest, most compelling covers from the serial, flipped them around and gussied them up. The redesigned covers, combined with the new titles, reflect the thriller elements of the series. When my editor e-mailed me the proofs, I couldn't breathe. This is the exact wording of my reply:
Yes! I love it I love it I love it! They're soooo beautiful. I'm going to get them blown up poster-size and hang them on my wall. I want to wallpaper my house with them. I want to project them into the sky like the Batman signal.
