Shakir Rashaan recaps latest episode of 'Power'
Hello, I'm Shakir Rashaan, and I'm a male erotic romance and mystery author for Strebor Books/Simon & Schuster and a regular contributor to the Happy Ever After blog! You can normally find me on my regular blog, Manly Musings, but I'm devoting some extra time to recapping episodes of Starz's hit show, Power.
Let's get started, shall we?
I'm hoping you had the chance to see the season premiere of Power last week. If you didn't, then you can catch my recap, but let me tell you now, things got intense right off the bat!
Here's what we know so far:
• Kanan was behind the (botched) hit on Ghost.
• Tasha knows about Angela.
• Tommy has gone domesticated and lovey-dovey over Holly? Are you serious? Tommy?
• Ghost has lost his ownership of Truth, thanks to power moves by Simon Stern.
Going into the second episode, I had a lot of questions in my mind that I hoped would and would not get answered, and to my delight, that's exactly how things went down!
Consider the puzzle completely blown to bits, and consider the rest of the season the time it's going to take to put the big picture together. Don't you just love it when it's like that?
In the aftermath of the power shift with regard to Truth, Ghost is trying to make the best of a bad situation. Simon is now his landlord and has put the terms of their "partnership" on the table in a take-it-or-leave-it scenario that Ghost has no choice but to say yes to. Ghost agrees, but with the stipulation that Simon agrees to the terms of his "freedom" to own Truth outright again. Simon agrees, but Ghost trusts his instincts, realizing that Simon may find a way to not honor their agreement.
With that out of the way, he turns his attention to the distribution problem he and Tommy are faced with. Now that they have gotten back on the same page (after Ghost has to check Tommy over what happened between Holly and Ghost before she was shot), they go out to Jersey to work over Tommy's connections — one dude is absolutely NUTS! — but to no avail, which places them in the position to figure out how to get the RSKs and Ruiz to squash the long-standing beef between them in order to move more product before Lobos begins to ship more on them. Tommy cashes in a favor Ruiz owes him in order to try to make it work, but the question is: Will it work?
Things are starting to unravel between Angela and Ghost, but Angela doesn't know it yet. She thinks things are going well. Meanwhile, her boyfriend is taking great pains to ensure that his new love isn't trying to investigate him. Using the rouse of making dinner at her apartment, he rifles through several files, realizing that Nomar was her CI, but that it has nothing to do with neither him nor Tommy.
Meanwhile, Angela is finding herself going down the primrose path and has managed to get a facial match, thanks to her new informant, and is going through a few names and aliases based on the match. Imagine her surprise to find a name from her past turn up on that list. She has been badgering Greg (and subtly flirting with him, trying to get him to let her help with the case she's been thrown off of) to let her see different pieces of evidence to help solidify her ID of Ghost, only to be rebuffed by him. She ends up bending rules yet again by hacking into Greg's accounts to confirm the person on the wire taps and the person she remembers are one and the same!
So much more happened in this episode, but here are some of the more interesting highlights to take into the next episode:
• Is Tasha starting to get back into that loving feeling with Ghost?
• Will outside forces continue to conspire against Ghost to keep him from owning Truth and being able to expand his network?
• What's Kanan's end game now that he's let Ghost and Tommy know that he's out early "on good behavior" and wants to get back on the grind again? Does Ghost trust him enough, despite Tommy's fanboy gushing over Kanan's return, to get him back into the groove of things?
As we end the episode, Ghost is having to go to Miami (under bittersweet circumstances) to take care of business on two fronts, when an unexpected companion comes to travel with him. Considering what he has to do, will the extra weight hinder the to-do list that he has to undertake?
The next episode should be crazy! Tune in next Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on Starz and see what turns up next!
