Shakir Rashaan recaps latest 'Power' episode: What do you want most?
Hello, I'm Shakir Rashaan, and I'm a male erotic romance and mystery author for Strebor Books/Simon & Schuster and a regular contributor to the Happy Ever After blog! You can normally find me on my regular blog, Manly Musings, but I'm devoting some extra time to recapping episodes of Starz's hit show, Power.
OK, this episode gives us a chance to breathe a little more and figure out what's coming for the end of the season as the chess game between Ghost and Angela begins to heat up, despite the fact that they are still in love with each other. Meanwhile, Tommy and Tasha are going through their own issues when it comes to the affairs of the heart.
Let's get started, shall we?
Being an avid chess player, I tend to love it when I see people setting things up in such a manner that the pawns and other pieces are in place before the bigger moves are made. Now, it's only a matter of which queen is going to be sacrificed, or is the king going to be given up by one of the queens?
The problems between Ghost and Angela are getting more complicated by the episode, as their passions outside of their relationship are starting to tear the relationship apart at the seams. Angela is convinced that Ghost turned on her and told Tommy about Holly, resulting in Holly's death. She threatens to leave him — and them — if he doesn't tell her the truth about what happened to Holly. Ghost initially decides not to tell her, but as Angela walks away, Ghost realizes he needs to keep her close at all costs, both to him and to their relationship, and finally tells Angela how to find Holly.
Tommy is dealing with his broken heart as only Tommy can: by getting high. The problem with that is he ends up getting paranoid on major levels, causing all kinds of disruptions to the network, tipping Ghost off that something is really off with him. Tommy finally lets Ghost know that he has to take Angela out, otherwise she'll keep going until she gets what she wants. Realizing that he can't get through to Tommy, he enlists the help of the one person who can get through to him, despite their tense relationship: Tasha. Tasha manages to get to Tommy before he can get to Angela outside of her apartment and talks him down from the ledge. Whew!
Now that the crisis is averted, she gets back to the business of figuring out her options of whether to divorce Ghost or figure out a way to deal with the situation. #TeamTasha fans will not like what she did when they first got married, and it might have a lot to do with what she did when they were first putting in work together, before the kids and domestic life. Also, it's going to be a little tense between Shawn and Tasha, too; even though she doesn't need a man in her life, she simply can't get enough of the young buck, either. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out toward the end of the season.
Going back to the chess game/love affair between Angela and Ghost. Angela was able to find out that Ghost was telling the truth about Holly being able to get out of the city without a trace under a fake name. Once Angela was able to find Holly, the chess game begins again. Holly is hostile from the jump, and when Angela corners her, Holly changes her story, saying that she lied about James being Ghost and that she doesn't know anything about anything. She basically said that Tommy was abusive and James helped her get away from him, even though they were friends. What Angela didn't know is that Ghost was on the speakerphone tucked in Holly's hip pocket. Advantage: Ghost. After Angela leaves, Ghost explains that he will wire Holly enough money to disappear forever.
But could Angela have made the best move on Ghost? After they've made up and slept together, Angela awakes in the middle of the night, slips away and takes Ghost's phone. What she does after that could change the course of their relationship and her case for capturing Lobos.
Of course (you know the routine by now), I'm not telling everything that happened in this episode, but here's some of the more interesting questions to take into the next episode:
• What is going to happen between Tasha and Ghost now that they've got a common interest of survival for the family to worry about?
• Now that Lobos is back in the States, how does his presence affect Ghost's network?
• And finally, where in the world is Kanan, and what will happen once he does come back on the scene?
Fasten your seat belts, ladies and gentlemen! Things are building to a climax! Tune in to Starz at 9 p.m. ET next Saturday to see what happens next!
